Attention Ladies Seeking Warm Weather!
Team DC is pleased to announce an online Auction of a fabulous week-long Mexican vacation for two compliments of Olivia Vacations. The bidding is now open for the next six days only! Go here and you can get in on the bidding:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140693601761
The trip is to the beautiful Club Med Resort in Cancun from May 5-12, 2012. Here is how they describe it:

Leave your watch in your room, because this week, you're on "island time ". One of the best things about this all-lesbian resort vacation is that you can do as much—or as little—as you want. Play catch in the water or put on a snorkeling mask and drift over schools of striped fish as you relax in the warm blue sea. Nap or read a book in a cabana or take a day-long excursion to visit breathtaking Mayan ruins. Invite a new friend to play some tennis or grab your partner and learn to dance. Almost all your activities, food and most drinks (yes, umbrella drinks and sodas, too) are included, which makes your hardest decision whether to enjoy a margarita with your new Olivia friends, try windsurfing, or join in the wet-n-wacky pool games. In the evenings, the resort comes alive with shows by great Olivia entertainers, followed by dancing at our nightly Club O.

If you have ever been on a trip with Olivia Vacations, you know that they offer an unforgettable experience. If you have always wanted to try one of their trips, now is the time to try it......you might even get a great bargain in the bidding process! (Please note that the package does not include airfare, gratuities or travel insurance. Please read the description online fully before bidding.)
Proceeds from the sale will benefit Team DC and Capital Pride. Did you know that DC has the third largest Pride celebration in the country? Team DC is proud to once again be a Community Partner with Capital Pride and to help them celebrate Pride all year long.
Team DC is also proud to partner with Olivia Vacations...the leader in travel and adventure for women looking for more out of life! To learn more about them and other travel packages, go to www.olivia.com or call 1-800-631-6277.

Ice Skating times two!
The DC IceBreakers will be hosting TWO skate nights in February. First, a special Friday Night of skating on February 3 with the NOVA GL Professionals social group. They will start with a Happy Hour at the Arlington Hilton from 6-8 PM and then stroll over to the Kettler IcePlex at 8:40 for an hour of skating. (If you are driving, best to park at Ballston Mall; if by Metro, it is right across from the Ballston Metro exit.)
Their next regular Skate Night will be on Wednesday, February 15 at 8 PM at the Kettler IcePlex at the Ballston Mall in Arlington. Joining them that night will be the DC Front Runners who will then accompany them to Bailey's Pub for some post-skating socializing. To learn more about these and other IceBreaker events, go to www.dcicebreakers.com.

Bowling for NOVAM
Join our friends at NOVAM (Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry) for their annual Bowling Extravaganza on Sunday, February 12 at the AMF Lanes at 4245 Markham Street in Annandale. Check in at 12:30 and then start rolling those strikes at 1 PM. Contact Mary Karstens at 703-533-5505 or at mkarstens@novam.org to sign up or learn more. Go to www.novam.org to learn more about their great work to fight HIV/AIDS.

Swimming for Life
Each year the DC Aquatics Club sponsors participants in the Swim for Life, a US Masters Swimmers Openwater sanctioned event that raises money for local HIV/AIDS programs. This year's event is on July 14 and if you want to be a part of this either as a swimmer or volunteer or donor, take a look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY86Lm4cMIs. If you are considering a triathlon at some point, this is a GREAT event to swim in open water in a safe, supervised, fun environment and benefit a great cause. More about DCAC can be found at www.swimdcac.org.

Scholarship News
Applications for the 2012 Team DC College Scholarships are now being accepted, so if you know of someone who might be interested, please encourage them to apply at www.teamdc.org.
In addition to the wonderful support from the Dupont Social Club, we want to acknowledge the incredible contribution of two organizations:
• The DC Gay Flag Football League made a generous contribution from sales of their Shirts and Skins Calendar. You can still order your calendar (and be the envy of all your officemates) by going to www.dcgffl.org. Only $20 for two years of hotness!
• The Capital Classic Tennis Tournament hosted by the Capital Tennis Association (www.capital-tennis.org) also made a tremendous donation for the second consecutive year. Special thanks to their major sponsor Brandon Green of Brandon Green Properties (www.brandongreen.com) for continuing this important support of our LGBT student-athletes.
Thanks to this kind of support, we are hoping to expand the Scholarship Program in 2012. Read the GREAT article on the front page of the Metro section of the Washington Post at http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/scholarship-reflects-challenges-of-coming-out-for-gay-student-athletes/2011/10/19/gIQAqOKf0L_story.html and meet some of our recent recipients.

Speaking of Student Athletes....
Our friends at the Puck Buddys (DC's own hockey blog for gay fans and supporters) have started a conversation with Zach, a gay high school hockey player from the Midwest that demonstrates exactly why a college scholarship program is important to have. You can follow their interview with him at http://puckbuddys.com/2012/01/08/hockey-and-homework/.

Ski and Snowboard Info
Take a look at www.snowandskiboardmonth.com to see where you can hit the slopes, take lessons and most importantly, find snow this year. (Don't worry....the weather man says it's coming.) This is a good resource for all Ski Bunnies!

She Got Game
Curator Jeffry Cudlin has brought together 11 artists—female, male, and transgendered—who explore shifting contemporary perceptions of women's bodies, gender roles, and identities through the lens of sports spectacle. Some of these artists offer iconic images of strong women athletes; others use the trappings of sport as a framework for performances about competition, objectification, and popular culture. Painted murals, larger-than-life-sized photos, videos, and installations depict women in professional tennis, bodybuilding, cheerleading, and even competitive eating. Exhibition runs through March 18 and you can learn more at https://www.arlingtonartscenter.org/aac-exhibition-she-got-game.

Cool Runnings
Yes, the DC Front Runners still run in Wintertime! If your New Year's Resolution is to lose weight and get in shape, this may be the group for you! Meet them at their next monthly First Friday Happy Hour on February 3 beginning at 6:30 PM at the Green Lantern (1335 Green Court, NW). To learn more about them or watch a great video, go to www.dcfrontrunners.org or http://dcfrontrunners.org/DCFR/Fast_Forward.html.

Community Conversations with Whitman Walker Health
Whitman Walker Health will be hosting a series of monthly community conversations of particular interest to the LGBT community. For a complete list of topics and venues, go to http://www.whitman-walker.org/page.aspx?pid=560. Thank you, Whitman Walker for caring about our community!

And, don't forget that the NY Giants and New England Patriots are playing a football game during the Madonna Concert on Super Bowl Sunday. Nellie's is the place to watch this!
Then join members of the DC Gay Flag Football League for a night of Speed Dating at Nellie's on Monday, February 13 between 7-10 PM. $15 cover to meet the Tight End of your dreams!

Two Studies of Interest
First, Jimmy Smith (of the Washington Wetskins) is completing his research project and is recruiting IT system and software developers to help out. This site explains the study https://sites.google.com/site/itquestionnaire/. He is not collecting sensitive or proprietary information; it's all in the name of scientific inquiry....and getting him graduated! If you are interested, Jimmy would make contact the IT team member, give a unique code and URL for the questionnaire itself, and that person would share those with fellow team members. Later he will develop scores by team and compare them to prove his hypothesis.
Second, Jasmine Bensinger is a research assistant for a graduate student at the University of Florida who is conducting a study on the workplace experiences of LGBT people. They hope this research will lead to a better understanding of LGBT people's work lives, including insights into discrimination and well-being. Participation will involve completing a survey online and will take approximately 20 minutes. If you would like to participate, please follow this link: https://ufpsychology.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_2ul8vfkuBiMR6yU
