Team DC encourages and supports involvement in team and individual sports within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and broader community in the Washington Metropolitan Area. To meet this objective, Team DC strives to promote excellence, integrity, and good sporting conduct in individual and team sports.

Team DC serves as a clearinghouse for information about the various sports teams, clubs, and events in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. It is a volunteer-based organization that also provides information and support to both individuals and sport clubs active in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Team DC also coordinates the areas delegation to the Gay Games and Cultural Festival, which is held every four years. Over 170 individuals from the DC area participated in Gay Games VII, which was held in Chicago, July 15-22, 2006.

Established in 2003, Team DC is a membership organization with a Board of Directors of up to 15 members. Working with the Board is the Council of Teams which functions as both an advisory committee and a point of communication with the teams.
